Both Romans 1:31 and 2 Tim 3:3 mention persons without natural affection being a bad thing, a result of God turning them over to their own lusts and evil desires. Romans 1:26 speaks of women turning away from their natural use. Likewise, men defiling themselves with men using them as women.
The focus of this particular blog post is "without natural affection". This phrase has caused me much consternation because it isn't all that specific and seems to embody a larger group of acts or even thinking than the much more specific things listed on either side of it. What does it mean?
I found out.

It seems Britney really doesn't want custody of her children full time. She can always have more later.
I think now that what God is getting at in without natural affection has to do as much with man/woman relations as parent/child relations. Everywhere, we see stories of parents not liking their children, regretting their birth. Children are in the way of our current lifestyle. We see stories of women dumping their children off bridges, men battering to death toddlers and newborns with their girlfriends/wives looking on and even assisting. Women and men are pushing for abortions of their own offspring. Even common humor writers are exploiting this seeming widespread "can't wait for the kids to be out of my life/back in school/ you name it" feeling parents are taught to have toward their children.
Aren't parents supposed to naturally love their children? Isn't it normal for a man or woman to risk their lives for the protection of their offspring? This is natural--natural affection. And, in our increasing rejection of God's righteousness in our culture these days, we are increasingly becoming without natural affection. I am positive that the way out of this is to immerse our minds in God's word to reset our thinking and affections. Romans 12:2 always and ever will apply.
"And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God."
And so, with Britney, the old adage still rings true. You can take the girl out of the trailer park, but you can't take the trailer park out of the girl.
